Trek for shelter in 2020
Join us on the Kokoda Trail in 2020 for an epic adventure like no other.
The Kokoda Track was the scene of bitter fighting when the Australian Army fought to defend Port Moresby from advancing Japanese forces in 1942. Today, walking that same track has become an iconic pilgrimage for those wanting to honour the ANZAC spirit. The ShelterBox Kokoda Challenge will take place over April 2020 as a special commemoration of the historic events.
On this adventure, you’ll lace up your boots to trek alongside ShelterBox Australia supporters to raise funds that will help supply disaster relief shelters to people in need.
By day, you’ll trek Papua New Guinea’s tropical rainforest, unforgiving in terrain and inspiring in beauty. As nightfall descends, you will stay in isolated camps, swapping stories with local Koiari and Orokaiva people and falling asleep to the nocturnal sounds of the jungle.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Disasters can strike anywhere, at any time.
By going the extra mile and trekking Kokoda for ShelterBox Australia, you’re helping our response teams go even further. The funds you raise can provide shelter from the elements, clean water to prevent illness, solar light for safety, blankets and ground sheets for protection as well as tools to repair homes.
- $1,000 could pay for one ShelterBox
- $100 could pay for one ShelterKit
- $500 could pay for one relief tent
- $50 could pay for one water filter
- $30 could pay for one solar light
Together we can help rebuild communities after disaster strikes.
ABOUT SHELTERBOX
ShelterBox is made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right – that shelter from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. No ifs. No buts.
When people are plunged into crisis, normality is suspended. But good, quality shelter can cut through the chaos. This is why we provide the tools that enable people to rebuild homes and transform their lives.
We do things differently. We were born different. We started life as a small organisation in rugged West Cornwall in the UK and have grown to make a big impact across the world. We don’t follow the crowd – we’ve carved our own path that leads straight to the families we support.
