ShelterBox has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize and the other Nobel Prizes were established by Swedish inventor and businessman, Alfred Nobel through his last will in 1895.

Every year, one person or organisation is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”

Previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates include Nelson MandelaMartin Luther King Jr.Malala YousafzaiMother Teresa  and Elie Wiesel.

  • 330 candidates have been nominated the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, out of which 216 are individuals and 114 are organisations.
  • Between 1901-2017, 198 Nobel Peace Prizes have been awarded.
  • 24  organisations have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, including UNHCR, Médecins Sans Frontières, and Amnesty International.
  • Malala Yousafzai is the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, receiving the award at just  17 years old in 2014.
  • 2 Peace Prizes have been divided between 3 people.
  • To date, 16 women have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • 62 is the average age of a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
  • The 2018 Laureate will be announced in October.
